New Superstar In The Making: Ashton Jeanty
The Heisman chatter is starting to heat up as Ashton Jeanty from Boise State University is on pace to beat Barry Sanders NCAA Division I single-season rushing record in 1988. Barry Sanders won the Heisman Trophy after running for 2,628 yards and 37 touchdowns in just 11 games (the NCAA didn’t start calculating bowl game stats until 2002). The last time a running back won the heisman was in 2015 when Derrick Henry From Alabama lead the nation in rushing yards (1,986), rushing touchdowns (23).
14 games into the season Ashton Jeanty has rushed for 1,525 yards (8 yards per carry) and 20 touchdowns with only three games left in the season Boise State is in contention for a bowl game and Ashton is in contention for the Heisman.
At 5′ 8″ and 217 pounds, Jeanty’s dense build combines good play strength with quickness, explosiveness, and speed. In addition to having excellent eyesight and touch balance, he somehow makes it appear as though he is playing the game at a faster pace than the others. The NFL has had a running back renaissance and I can see Ashton Jeanty being drafted in the first 15 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The NFL draft pundits always make player comparisons and if he runs below 4.5 in the 40 yard dash at the NFL combine the two name that Ashton Jeanty will be compared to is Jahmyr Gibbs and Saquon Barkley.
