Super Mario Bros 3

Super Mario Bros. 3 pushed the boundaries of the NES and gave Mario additional abilities including the tanooki costume, frog suit, hammer suit, and raccoon tail. In addition to his other abilities, Mario could now fly. For a Mario aficionado, it was a huge leap. Add to that the nonlinear progression, hidden items, and level detail. It was groundbreaking at the time, and playing it is still enjoyable now. I remember as a kid watching the Fred Savage movie The wizard and in the last round of the Video Armageddon competition at the end of the movie everyone is introduced to Super Mario 3 so epic.

The Legend Of Zelda

Legend of Zelda was many kids first RPG game and what a game to start with with secrets, great music, and enjoyable levels. The eight Triforce of Wisdom pieces must be gathered, Ganon must be vanquished, and Princess Zelda must be saved in The Legend of Zelda. Before going on the quest to the last dungeon, Level 9: Death Mountain, to vanquish the evil wizard Ganon, the player must assume the role of Link, the game’s hero, and explore the first eight dungeons in order to gather the components of the Triforce of Wisdom.

Mega Man 3

A classic side-scrolling platformer, Mega Man 3 has you jumping from brick to brick while dodging holes and firing at enemies. In every way, it is very similar to previous Mega Man games, but this is the first time you acquire a sidekick. Additionally, you are permitted to slide rather than just walk for the first time. Mega Man 3 is difficult and at the end of every stage the player must defeat Robot Master’s bosses Magnet Man, Hard Man, Top Man, Shadow Man, Spark Man, Snake Man, Gemini Man, or Needle Man.

Metroid

One of the first nonlinear game experiences on the Nintendo platform was offered by Metroid. The fundamental gameplay combines elements of platform shooter and action adventure with relatively few power-ups at first, Samus must traverse the vast landscapes in order to reach the next “locked” or inaccessible section. Metroid had a fantastic concept but was severely hampered by antiquated features and inadequate technology but overall great game for retro gamers.

Bionic Commando

Bionic Commando is a classic side scrolling game from capcom with unique feature where the main character uses a grappling arm instead of jumping. This game is one of my favourites as the levels are challenging and the accomplishment of shooting a look a like hitter with your bazooka is classic. The only drawback with bionic commando is the grappling arm control is tough to get used to and there should have been a save feature.

Contra

I have fond memories playing this ultra hard side scrolling game with your buddy and using the classic Konami cheat code. Up up down down left right left right b a start.Contra is just as much fun now as it was back in 1988. The action is tight, quick, and enjoyable, the soundtrack is upbeat and memorable, and the graphics are well-done and avoid the grainy, too ambitious look that many NES games suffered from.

Castlevania 3

The wicked army that Count Dracula is assembling is poised to take over the country. You will encounter additional characters who can join your group, so the vampire hunter isn’t alone this time. A fantastic action/platform game, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse is exciting, tough, replayable, and may have the best music of any Castlevania game!

Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out

Who doesn’t remember playing as little Mac working your way up to the professional ranks and get that coveted fight against iron Mike Tyson. This is another hard Nintendo game full of classic characters from king hippo, bald bull, and glass Joe just trying to figure out each character’s patterns is a treat but fighting Mike Tyson is out of my skill.

Excitebike

Excitebike is a fun side scrolling as you race your opponents in Four lanes and have to maneuver around hazards don’t hold down button A too long you don’t want to overheat. Only fault is I wish this was a 2 player game but there wasn’t many true 2 player games out at the time.

Super Mario Bros 2

Super Mario 2 is an awesome 2D masterpiece with great music , lots of levels, and boss to fight after each level. Compared to the original Super Mario Bros., the game’s visual appeal was significantly better. In this instance, it benefits the game even though it appears a bit more cartoonish. It all appears a little more alive. Each of the four playable characters has a distinct personality that sets them apart from the others.
